It features a deep, well-stratified five-metre sequence of deposits that preserves a record of human occupation and environmental change spanning between 60 000 and 80 000 years. Unlike the neighboring Cango Caves, which are highly commercialised tourist show-caves, Boomplaas Cave is primarily an active scientific and research site that provides critical insights into how early humans adapted to major climate shifts over millennia.
