About Cango Caves

The Cango Caves are Africa's largest show cave system and South Africa's oldest tourist attraction, located in the Swartberg Mountains near Oudtshoorn. This 20-million-year-old underground marvel cuts deep into a thick limestone rock layer, featuring massive chambers and spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations. Guided tours are strictly mandatory to explore the cave network. Visitors can choose between two main experiences: Heritage Tour: An easy, 60-minute walking tour through the largest, most majestic halls. Ideal for families, children, and anyone uncomfortable with confined spaces. Adventure Tour: A thrilling, 90-minute trek that branches into the deepest sections of the cave. It involves climbing iron ladders, crawling through narrow tunnels, and navigating tight squeezes like the "Devil's Chimney". Note: Not suitable for pregnant women, children under 8, or those suffering from claustrophobia or back ailments.
