About Het Posthuys (or De Post Huys)

Located on the "Historical Mile" of Muizenberg, this is one of the oldest surviving buildings in South Africa, dating back to roughly 1673. History: Originally built by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a military lookout post to guard False Bay from enemy ships. Over centuries, it served varied roles including a toll-house, police station, stables, and even an ale house and brothel. Visiting: The museum is typically open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Entry is generally by donation. Key Exhibits: Inside, you can find photographic displays of early Muizenberg, artifacts like a 1680 Dutch coin and a flintlock musket found during excavations, and a diorama of the Battle of Muizenberg.
