Nieu-Bethesda, Eastern CapeThe Ganora Private Fossil Museum, located on Ganora Guest Farm just 7km outside of Nieu-Bethesda, houses one of South Africa's most significant private collections of prehistoric remains. Established in 1998, the museum features fossils found directly on the farm that average 280 million years old, predating dinosaurs by over 100 million years. The Crown Jewel: The museum displays the Kompasia delaharpei, currently believed to be the only complete fish fossil of its kind in the world. Mammal-like Reptiles: You can see skulls and remains of Gorgonopsians (top predators with saber-like teeth) and herbivorous Dicynodonts. Prehistoric Flora: Fossilised leaves from Glossopteris trees are on display—these ancient plants are responsible for the coal mined in South Africa today.View details →
