About Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp
The Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp is the only one of its kind in South Africa, housing a vast collection of treasures salvaged from over 150 wrecks along the treacherous "Graveyard of the Ships". Located at 6 Independent Street in Bredasdorp, it offers a hauntingly beautiful tribute to maritime history through original artifacts, historic buildings, and local lore. Maritime Section: Located in an old church, it features figureheads, cannons, coins, and nautical equipment from famous wrecks like the HMS Birkenhead. The Old Parsonage: A typical "Strandveld" home furnished with items washed ashore or salvaged from the coast. The Old Coach House: Displays vintage transport, including horse-drawn hearses, Cape carts, and a splendid old fire engine.
