The Joanna (also spelled Johanna) was a British East Indiaman that famously wrecked on 8 June 1682 off the coast of South Africa. It holds historical significance as the first English East India Company (EIC) ship to be lost on the South African coastline. Location: The ship struck a reef near Cape Agulhas, specifically east of Quoin Point (near "Die Dam"). Casualties & Survivors: Between 10 and 24 people drowned. Approximately 104 survivors reached the shore and were aided by the local Khoe people, who provided food and guides to help them reach Cape Town.
