About The Thomas T. Tucker

The SS Thomas T. Tucker is a famous World War II Liberty ship wreck located at Olifantsbos within the Cape Point Nature Reserve in South Africa. It is the centerpiece of one of the area's most popular coastal hiking trails. The Incident: On November 27, 1942, during its maiden voyage, the ship struck Albatross Rock in dense fog and ran aground at Olifantsbos. Cause: The ship's compass was reportedly misaligned by nearly 37 degrees, likely due to the massive amounts of iron (including tanks and trucks) it was carrying for the North African campaign.
