About Witsand Nature Reserve
Witsand Nature Reserve, located in the Northern Cape, South Africa, is a 3,500-hectare eco-destination famed for its 100-meter-high white sand dunes that "roar" (Brulsand) when disturbed. The reserve offers diverse activities including birding (170+ species), hiking, 4x4 trails, dune boarding, and stargazing. Accommodation includes chalets and a campsite, with no large predators, making it ideal for walking. The Roaring Sands: The white dunes create a deep humming sound from September to April, particularly in summer. The white sand contrast vividly with red Kalahari sand, featuring rare fulgurites (glass-like sand tubes) formed by lightning.
