The Hottentots-Holland Mountain Catchment Area at MRPR+PP Rooi-Els is a rugged, untamed ecological sanctuary that forms the towering backdrop where the majestic Cape Fold Mountains plunge into False Bay. As part of a vast 70,000-hectare protected World Heritage Site, this specific section blends seamlessly into the UNESCO-registered Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. It features sweeping valleys of ancient, highly biodiverse fynbos vegetation and serves as a vital water catchment system for the region. Completely free of development, the dramatic cliffs above Rooi-Els act as a crucial wildlife corridor, providing a safe haven for free-roaming leopards, small antelope, chacma baboons, and nesting pairs of majestic Verreaux's eagles.
