About Cape Point

Cape Point is a dramatic promontory located at the southeast corner of the Cape Peninsula within the Table Mountain National Park. Often referred to as the most south-western tip of the African continent, it is world-renowned for its rugged 200-metre-high cliffs, diverse wildlife, and rich maritime history. There are two lighthouses at the point. The Old Lighthouse (built in 1859) sits on the highest peak but was often obscured by fog. The New Lighthouse (built in 1919) is situated lower on the cliffs and remains the most powerful on the South African coast.
