Point of Human Origins is a world-renowned archaeological site and tourist attraction nestled in the coastal cliffs of Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is celebrated for preserving some of the earliest evidence of modern human behavior, diet, and cognitive development, dating back more than 164,000 years. Visitors can embark on guided educational tours that descend down a scenic cliffside path via wooden boardwalks and stairs to explore ancient sea caves. Inside, archaeologists have uncovered exceptional Middle Stone Age deposits, including advanced stone tools, remnants of early fire use, and ground ochre pigments used for symbolic practices.
