Cape St Blaize Cave
About Cape St Blaize Cave
Cape St Blaize Cave is a monumental archaeological site and dramatic natural landmark set into the rugged cliffs directly beneath the historic Cape St Blaize Lighthouse in Mossel Bay. Measuring an impressive ten metres high and seventy-two metres wide, this massive sea cave offers visitors breathtaking, panoramic views across the Indian Ocean and serves as an exceptional vantage point for spotting seasonal whales and resident dolphin pods.
Beyond its stark coastal beauty, the cave holds deep historical and scientific importance, preserving shell middens and stone artefacts that document human occupation stretching back over 200,000 years into the Middle Stone Age. Today, the site is entirely free to enter and easily accessible via a well-maintained wooden walkway and viewing platform, serving as the official starting point for the scenic 13.5-kilometre St Blaize Hiking Trail.
