About Kogmanskloof Mountain Pass

The Cogmanskloof Pass (R62) is a 6.5 km scenic route through the Langeberg mountains, linking Ashton and Montagu in the Western Cape, South Africa. Built by Thomas Bain (1873–1877), this historically significant "poort" features dramatic rock formations, a river-following road, a, 19th-century English fort, and a distinctive tunnel with a pedestrian archway. Scenic Geology: Dramatic, exposed Cape Fold Mountain rock formations and a narrow gorge. History: Engineered by Thomas Bain between 1873 and 1877. Common Hazards: The route is susceptible to flooding.
