About Eikenhof Dam
The Eikenhof Dam is a 47-metre-high earth-fill embankment dam constructed in 1977 on the Palmiet River near Grabouw in the Western Cape. The structure features a reservoir capacity of 29 million cubic metres and covers a surface area of 270 hectares at full supply level, serving primarily as a vital irrigation source for the Elgin Valley's extensive agricultural sector. Beyond its agricultural role, the dam functions as an emergency backup resource for Cape Town's municipal water supply through an integrated water transfer system and hosts the Elgin Grabouw Country Club, alongside designated trails for mountain biking and recreational infrastructure for bass fishing.
