Port Nolloth Harbour
About Port Nolloth Harbour
Port Nolloth Harbour is a small-vessel seaport located on the Atlantic coast of the Namaqualand region in South Africa's Northern Cape province. Established in 1854 to export copper ore from inland mines, the harbor's shallow reef entrance restricted access for large modern ships, leading to a shift in its economic focus toward marine diamond recovery and small-scale commercial fishing.
Today, it serves as an operational base for diamond mining vessels and local crayfishing boats, while undergoing long-term infrastructure rehabilitation under national development programs to upgrade its quays and marine facilities. The harbor area features a distinct desert climate characterized by sudden, heavy coastal fog caused by the cold Benguela Current, and it serves as a geographic gateway to the nearby McDougalls Bay and the Richtersveld region.
