About Siener N.P.J van Rensburg Begrafplaas
Nicolaas Pieter Johannes "Siener" Janse van Rensburg (1864–1926) was a South African Boer farmer and cultural figure whose reported symbolic visions exerted a significant influence on Afrikaner history and military strategy. Highly regarded within his deeply religious rural community, he gained widespread prominence during the Second Boer War (1899–1902), where his alleged prophetic insights made him a trusted companion and wartime advisor to prominent Boer commanders like General Koos de la Rey and President M.T. Steyn. Van Rensburg, who was mostly illiterate, expressed his visions using a complex lexicon of patriotic and biblical imagery, which his daughter, Anna Badenhorst, systematically documented in written logs.
His most famous prediction involved a vision of a dark cloud bearing the number 15 alongside General De la Rey returning home without his hat, which believers directly linked to De la Rey’s fatal shooting at a police roadblock on 15 September 1914. Following his brief imprisonment for participating in the anti-British 1914 Maritz Rebellion, during which his son Willem was killed, Van Rensburg returned to his farm in Rietkuil near Ottosdal, where he remained until his death.
