About Graeme Naylor Museum
The Graeme Naylor Museum is a natural history museum located at the headquarters of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve near Hoedspruit. Established in 2009 and later fully refurbished in 2016 by its namesake, Dr. Graeme Naylor, the facility acts as an educational archive illustrating the reserve's complete ecological system. The museum houses curated biological displays, including an extensive collection of local bird eggs, taxidermy and skeletal exhibits of the area's famed white lions, regional owl specimens, and an array of indigenous insects, frogs, and freshwater fish.
Operating under a strict conservation ethic, the museum sources its specimens exclusively from natural deaths, vehicular accidents, confiscated poaching snares, or verified donations from conservation partners rather than harvesting live wildlife. The venue operates Monday through Friday, welcoming both general tourists and local educational groups to learn about the biodiversity and ongoing conservation efforts of the Lowveld region.
