Sweni Bird Hide
About Sweni Bird Hide
The Sweni Bird Hide is an L-shaped wildlife viewing structure located in the central region of Kruger National Park. Situated along the Sweni River near the S37 road, it is positioned roughly 5 kilometers west of the N’wanetsi Picnic Spot and southeast of the Satara Rest Camp.
The hide's distinct architectural layout overlooks a permanent water pool, providing elevated vantage points for observing aquatic and terrestrial fauna without disturbing their natural behavior. Visitors routinely use the facility to view resident species such as hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles, African fish eagles, giant kingfishers, and goliath herons, alongside various migratory bird species during the summer months. Operating as an unstaffed, day-use destination with strict silence protocols, the site does not contain restroom facilities, requiring visitors to utilize the amenities at nearby picnic spots or main rest camps.
