Olifants River Viewpoint
About Olifants River Viewpoint
The Olifants River Viewpoint, situated on the S44 loop in the central region of Kruger National Park, is a dedicated, unfenced public lookout site positioned high on a rocky ridge directly overlooking the waters of the Olifants River. Accessible to self-drive visitors via a dirt road, this specific geographic viewpoint features a designated gravel parking area where travelers are permitted to step out of their vehicles at their own risk to observe the landscape.
The elevated topography of this spot provides a panoramic view of the wide riverbed, sandbanks, and reed beds below, making it a prominent location for monitoring resident aquatic wildlife such as hippopotamuses and Nile crocodiles, as well as drinking herds of elephants and various bird species. Because the viewpoint sits at a significant height above the water level, binoculars or telephoto lenses are standard requirements for clear, close-up wildlife identification from the parking boundary.
