Olifants Bridge
About Olifants Bridge
The Olifants Bridge along the Olifants - Satara Road (H1-4) is a critical transit point and geographic landmark in the central region of the Kruger National Park. Connecting the open savanna grasslands of the predator rich Satara area to the rocky, rugged veld and northern mopaneveld ecosystem, the crossing serves as a key travel corridor for self drive safaris.
The site features an elevated high-water structure built to withstand torrential summer flooding, alongside a lower causeway where park visitors are officially permitted to step out of their vehicles within clearly demarcated yellow safety zones. Because the bridge sits directly over the Olifants River, it acts as a prominent vantage point for observing large concentrations of hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles, and herds of elephants, while the immediate riverbanks attract numerous waterbird species such as the green-backed heron, little swifts, and the African spoonbill.
