About Qhubu Lake
Qhubu Lake, also commonly referred to as Lake Cubhu, is a coastal freshwater lake spanning roughly 5.8 square kilometres located approximately 7 kilometres northeast of the township of eSikhaleni (Esikhawini) within the City of uMhlathuze Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. The lake serves as a critical local freshwater resource, with municipal infrastructure pumping water from the lake to supply approximately 13 wards across eSikhaleni, Port Dunford, Dlangezwa, Felixton, and surrounding areas.
Alongside its primary role in regional water security, the lake is integrated into the area's cultural and recreational landscape, serving as a prominent destination for fishing and leisure. Furthermore, the lake holds recognized potential for economic development, particularly regarding municipal efforts to expand local reservoir infrastructure, enhance water utility stability, and boost regional tourism and eco-attractions in conjunction with the broader Richards Bay area.
