About Queen Victoria - Rock Formation

The Queen Victoria Rock Formation (also known as "Queen Victoria's Bust") is a famous natural landmark located in the Gamtoos River Valley near Patensie, on the eastern edge of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area. Appearance: The formation is a natural rock profile that bears a striking resemblance to the silhouette or "bust" of Queen Victoria. Geology: The formation is made of Enon conglomerate, a rock composed of smooth water-borne pebbles, boulders, and sand cemented together over millions of years. This specific formation was created by centuries of natural erosion. Viewing Tip: It is best seen when driving from the Baviaanskloof towards Patensie (heading east). If you are heading west into the kloof, you will need to stop and look back to see the profile.
