About Union Tavern Landmark
The Union Tavern (and its adjoining stables) is a quiet, evocative cornerstone of Simon’s Town’s historical mile. While it no longer serves as a rowdy 19th-century watering hole, it remains one of the area’s most significant architectural landmarks. Its early history is a series of financial struggles; the tavern lost its billiard license due to "irregularities and disturbances," eventually leading Bissinger to bankruptcy as he couldn't compete with the main street's many wine houses.
