About Prince of Wales Blockhouse Landmark

Built by the British between 1795 and 1803 during their first occupation of the Cape, it was part of a three-blockhouse defensive line (including the King's and Queen's blockhouses) designed to protect the land approach to Cape Town from the Dutch. While it fell into disrepair by the early 19th century as artillery advanced, you can still see substantial remains today.
