About Colonel Bird's Bath

Colonel Bird's Bath is a "must-visit" tranquil escape tucked away in The Dell, often considered the "healing and sacred heart" of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Built in 1811 by Colonel Christopher Bird, this whimsically bird-shaped stone pool collects pure, crystal-clear water from an underground spring fed by the Table Mountain aquifer. Visitors often stop here to "fill their water bottles" with the fresh, neutral-pH mountain water that bubbles up at a steady 18°C year-round.
