The Manie Maritz fort is a historical site located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, specifically in the vicinity of Upington. It is named after Salomon Gerhardus "Manie" Maritz (1876–1940), a prominent Boer general during the Anglo-Boer War and a leader of the 1914 Maritz Rebellion. Maritz was a key figure in Boer military history and later a controversial political figure. In 1914, while serving as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Union Defence Force, he led a rebellion against South Africa's entry into World War I on the side of Britain, operating primarily near the border of then-German South West Africa (modern-day Namibia).
