About Totius House Museum

The Totius House Museum is a historical house museum located in the academic town of Potchefstroom in the North West Province of South Africa. It was once the home of Jacob Daniël du Toit, a famous Afrikaans poet, theologian, and Bible translator who wrote under the pen name Totius. The house was built in 1905 in the Edwardian architectural style. It serves as a tribute to the life and work of Totius, who lived here while serving as the principal and professor of the local Theological School. He used this space to create his poetry and help translate the Bible into Afrikaans. The house opened as a museum in 1977 and is a protected National Monument. Visitor Information Address: 108 Molen Street, Potchefstroom, 2620 (situated within the historic Reformed Theological School Complex).
