Battle of Ouhoutbossie Manchester Regiment Graves
About Battle of Ouhoutbossie Manchester Regiment Graves
The Battle of Ouhoutbossie, fought on the night of 19 December 1901 during the Anglo-Boer War, occurred when General Christiaan Muller's Middelburg Commando launched a multi-directional night ambush against a British mounted infantry column in dense fog and darkness. The final resting place of the British casualties, primarily from the 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment, is located at the Dullstroom British Military Cemetery on the farm Kleinzuikerboschkop.
Situated alongside the R540 road between Dullstroom and Lydenburg in Mpumalanga, the small, enclosed roadside cemetery is marked by standard-issue cast-iron crosses and a prominent white marble headstone dedicated to Captain Angus Menzies. Directly across the road from these graves stands a stone memorial commemorating the nine Boer burghers who also died during the engagement.
