About Nelson Mandela Statue
The Nelson Mandela Statue at the Union Buildings in Pretoria is the tallest figurative bronze sculpture of the former president in the world. Standing 9 metres tall, it was unveiled on 16 December 2013, exactly one day after Mandela's funeral, to mark the end of the official mourning period. Unique Pose: Unlike many other memorials that depict Mandela with a raised fist, this statue shows him with outstretched arms. This gesture is intended to symbolise his embrace of the entire nation and the spirit of reconciliation. The Artists: It was created by South African sculptors Andre Prinsloo and Ruhan Janse van Vuuren.
