About Old Jeppe Street Power Station

The Old Jeppe Street Power Station, constructed between 1927 and 1934 in Newtown, Johannesburg, was a massive steam-driven facility built to meet the city's growing electricity demands. After it was decommissioned in 1961, the industrial landmark fell into decay until it was purchased and redeveloped by AngloGold Ashanti in the mid-2000s. Today, the preserved structure is known as Turbine Hall, serving as a modern corporate headquarters and cultural event space that retains its original industrial architecture.
