About Nelson Mandela Statue
The Nelson Mandela Statue is the iconic centerpiece of Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, Johannesburg. Unveiled on 31 March 2004 to celebrate 10 years of South African democracy, it was the country's first public statue of the former president. Dimensions: It stands 6 metres (20 ft) tall and weighs approximately 2.5 tons. Design: Sculpted by Kobus Hattingh and Jacob Maponyane, the bronze statue depicts Mandela in a joyful pose known as the "Madiba jive" while wearing his signature Madiba shirt.
