About The War Memorial Steytlerville
The War Memorial Steytlerville (also known as The War Monument) is a poignant historical landmark located in the middle of the road at the intersection of Middelton and Piet Retief Streets in Steytlerville, Eastern Cape. Establishment: The monument was built in 1925 to honour residents who died during the First World War (1914–1918). Commemoration: It was later updated with a plaque to include those who perished in the Second World War (1939–1945). The Fallen: A total of eleven names are inscribed on the memorial: CR Buckley, J Erasmus, N Gaisford, J Kunneke, A Pettit, J Ring, J de Wit, PF Ferreira, H Hooper, JY Nash, and P Renison.
