The First Language Monument, unveiled on 18 January 1893 in Burgersdorp, is a landmark in Afrikaner linguistic history, commemorating the recognition of Dutch as an official language in the Cape Colony; known also as the Dutch Language Monument, it is uniquely the only monument worldwide dedicated to the Dutch language.
