About Anglo-Boer Blockhouse 1
The Anglo-Boer Blockhouse 1, also known as "The Sentinel" (Brandwag), is a historic military fortification overlooking the town of Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is one of two surviving masonry blockhouses in the town that were built by British forces during the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902) to protect critical railway lines and bridges. Military Strategy: It formed part of a defensive line established by Lord Kitchener that extended from Queenstown through Molteno and Burgersdorp to Bethulie.
