About Karoo Gardens Hiking Trails
The Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden in Worcester, South Africa, features a structured network of desert and semi-arid hiking trails covering 143 hectares of uncultivated natural vegetation at the foot of the Hex River Mountain range. The official trail network includes the 1.4-mile Shale Trail, the 3-mile Heuweltjie Trail, and the 2.9-mile Grysbok Trail, which feature terrain composed of loose Malmesbury shale, sand, and rocky succulent outcrops with zero natural shade. The landscape showcases indigenous succulents, vygies, and aloes, with peak flowering occurring during the spring season from late July to late September. The garden is open daily from 07:00 to 18:00, with standard adult entry priced at R60, and pets are strictly prohibited to protect local wildlife. *Pricing may change in the future.
