The Sentinel Hiking Trail in Hout Bay offers some of the most dramatic coastal views in Cape Town, but it must be approached with extreme caution due to active security risks. Rising 331 metres sharply out of the Atlantic Ocean, this short, steep trail provides unmatched vantage points of the Hout Bay harbour, Chapman's Peak Drive, and the famous Dungeons big-wave surf break. However, a history of serious security incidents and robberies means this trail should never be hiked alone or in small groups.
