The Ridge Beacon Hiking Trail (accessible via the mountainside residential trailheads near 7 Carmichael Rd, Fish Hoek, Cape Town) is a local-favourite paths track that offers an invigorating workout rewarded by panoramic, 360-degree vistas over the False Bay coastline, Fish Hoek Beach, and the Elsies Peak contours. Ascending the rugged Fish Hoek mountainside, this steep and moderately challenging singletrack route winds through pristine, rocky Cape fynbos terrain, making it a fantastic short trek for bird-watchers and photography enthusiasts looking to capture sweeping ocean views. The trail remains relatively sheltered from the worst of the regional South Easter winds for the majority of the climb. However, because the upper ridges are heavily exposed to the elements and feature loose gravel gradients, hikers are urged to pack a warm jacket, wear sturdy footwear, and carry plenty of hydration.
