About Iron Throne Trail Park
At Iron Throne Trail Park, visitors have two primary logistical options for navigating the mountain: completing a full walking loop or choosing a multi-modal "hike up, ride down" journey. Opting for a full walking loop such as the standard 6.4 km to 6.6 km Purple Trail requires hikers to navigate both a relentless, steep vertical ascent of 1,286 feet and a technically challenging, rocky descent back down the slopes of the Magaliesberg range.
Alternatively, hikers can tackle the rigorous uphill climb via trails like the Blue or Purple routes to reach the mountain peak, and then purchase a separate, one-way ticket for roughly R180 to ride the Harties Cableway back to the base. Choosing the cable car descent eliminates the physical strain of descending loose, slippery rocks, but this option is subject to the cableway's operational schedule, which typically runs from Wednesday to Sunday and remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
