About Trans Gamtoos Slackpacking
The Trans Gamtoos Slackpacking trail is a three-day, 70-kilometre hiking adventure through the fertile Gamtoos Valley in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It is designed as a "slackpacking" experience, meaning your heavy gear is transported for you between overnight stops, allowing you to walk with only a light day pack. Distance & Duration: Approximately 70 km covered over 3 days. Difficulty: Includes climbs to heights of roughly 1,400 m above sea level, offering 360-degree views of the valley. Terrain: The route primarily follows dirt roads and farm tracks through world-famous citrus orchards, indigenous veld, and mountainous terrain. Booking is essential.
