About Richtersveld NP Gate
The Sendelingsdrif Gate serves as the primary administrative entrance, check-in hub, and safety checkpoint for the magnificent !Ai-!Ais / Richtersveld Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape. Located at 1 Marshall Street along the banks of the Orange River, this critical gateway houses the main SANParks reception office, where all incoming overlanders must physically check in to pay conservation fees, finalize wilderness camping permits, and complete mandatory safety tracking registries. The gate precinct acts as a vital final supply oasis before travelers head into the wild mountain desert, featuring a reliable fuel station, a basic general shop for firewood and ice, and a motorized pontoon ferry that carries 4x4 vehicles directly across the international border into Namibia. Operating times change seasonally (closing at 19:00 PM in summer and 18:00 PM in winter), and because the park enforces a strict card-only payment policy and completely bans domestic pets, a successful expedition into the deep interior passes entirely through being fully prepared at this starting node.
