About Apollo Theatre
The Apollo Theater situated in Victoria West. Established in 1843 and named after Queen Victoria. Andrew Aristides Bassil came to Victoria West in 1923 to manage the Cape of Good Hope Café. A few years after his arrival he built the Apollo Theatre behind the Café. Dauring the 1950’s he decided to upgrade the theatre and in March 1957, the new Apollo Theatre opened, housing a film cinema that was substantially enlarged and modernized, boasting two galleries, a raked auditorium, upholstered seats and new equipment capable of projecting wide-screen cinemascope films. Today, it is the last original operational Art Deco Theatre in the Southern Hemisphere. Make sure to book your tour of the Theatre ahead of time to prevent disappointment.
