About Umlani Bushcamp
Umlani Bushcamp was founded in 1989 by Marco and Marie-Louise Schiess within the central section of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. This reserve shares an unfenced border with the Greater Kruger National Park, allowing wildlife to migrate freely across a vast wilderness area. Built from natural materials in a traditional African style to blend with the environment, the camp operates off the grid with a light footprint. It utilizes solar power for essentials, gas or solar for hot water, and paraffin lanterns or candlelight for night lighting.
Accommodations consist of traditional thatched huts featuring en-suite bathrooms and open-air bush showers. The camp accommodates up to 16 guests and features a central boma, an on-site bar, a dining space, a swimming pool, and a viewing deck that overlooks a seasonal riverbed and a nearby watering hole. Standard inclusions at the camp cover all meals, local beverages, and twice-daily open-vehicle game drives or walking safaris led by experienced rangers and trackers. Additionally, the property offers a wheelchair-accessible unit, welcomes children of all ages, and features an exclusive, off-site treehouse located up to 2.5 kilometers away for wilderness sleepouts or wildlife viewing.
