About Olifants Rest Camp
Olifants Rest Camp is a major rest camp managed by SANParks in the central region of Kruger National Park. It is situated on a high rocky ridge that overlooks the Olifants River, providing expansive views of the riverbed and surrounding bushveld where elephants, hippos, and crocodiles are frequently observed. The camp does not feature any campsites for tents or caravans within its boundaries, though camping facilities are available at its nearby rustic satellite camp, Balule. Accommodation options inside the main camp include multi-bed thatched bungalows, some positioned along the perimeter fence for unobstructed river views, and premium guest houses equipped with private viewing decks.
Due to wildlife activity, the outdoor kitchenettes are fitted with lockable mesh cages to prevent baboons and vervet monkeys from accessing food. Camp amenities include a Tindlovu restaurant, a park shop, a petrol station, a laundromat, and a swimming pool. Visitors can book guided activities at reception, such as morning bush walks, night game drives, and mountain bike trails. Access to the camp is commonly via the Phalaborwa Gate, located approximately 83 kilometers away, or the Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit and Kruger Park Gateway Airport in Phalaborwa.
