Originally built in 1928, the stadium serves as the official home ground for the Lions rugby union team and frequently hosts high-profile international matches for the Springboks. It is globally recognized for hosting the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final and several matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and it became the country's first black-owned stadium in 2005.
